I’m hearing the rain now at Starr Ranch. Starting raining where I live about 2 hours ago. Just heard some ‘chittering’ in the distance. Wishing ‘owl’ are safe!
Here are some captures of the owlet that remained after the ‘bigger’ (it looked bigger) left.
When it was slinging debris around, I thought it might be Mrs. O, but then the chest shots don’t look like Mrs. O, do they????
That certainly was a quiet launch. No rasping, begging or “fog horn” sounds. (Borrowed “fog horn” from feather ~ very funny!) Now I hear ‘mom’, or an adult, making those ‘chortling’ sounds as the patrowl for prey commences.
Oh, and there it is ~ that familiar rasp that I so love. :)
this is my challenge… BNOW vocals at SR and this type of Barred Owl duet outside my window in the front yard as I type – too many owls, too little time :)
feather ~ I’m green with envy!!! I would LOVE to hear those type of sounds outside. Most of the things that are flying outside where I live are called………..airplanes! :(
“I am one of five owlets still hangin’ out at the Starr Ranch Ritz.”
“I am curious about my surroundings!”
“I am flexible, wouldn’t you say?”
“I am gorgeous???? Yes??”
“I am snoozin’!”
“I am an owlet with lots of spots on my chest but not much fluff anymore!”
And I am GONE at 7:41 p.m.
Perhaps in my honor, and all the other critters as well, you’ll make a donation tonight!!!
When donating, what is the best way to have the full amount go to Starr Ranch and Pete for the joy of the owl season and his faithful commitment to the survival of the family this year? Thanks you, Pete!!!
On the donation page, there is a box for “comments”. I read a long time ago that one can enter “for Starr Ranch” and the donation will be directed there instead of California Audubon in general. I hope that works because I’ve done that for each donation I’ve made.
I’ll go out on the limb (!) and say either pledge for the Birdathon or hit the ‘support this webcam’ link – above right hand column.
And as Hibiscus mentioned previously a $1 or more pledge per species in the Birdathon will qualify you for one of the beautiful and coveted Starr Ranch t shirts!
Does it say something like plug in needed to view this web page? If so, go through with that process to view the cams. Otherwise, you could post again and check the FAQS. Hope this helps you!!

As I log off for the night, the cavity is empty, no BNOW sounds can be heard for the moment. G’night!

Nope! :)
Was that an encounter? Which owls were those? That seemed unusual, tentative, interesting. Who else was watching?

So, I guess another picture is needed in the series with the
owlet’s beak wide open and the caption would read …..
“I am LOUD! I can RASP! I am ‘LOVED!” lol
…..like this shot from a short time ago! :)
What a challenge, emma. I have too many of these kind of captures to sort through…..lol ;)

I would like to send a ck for $25 but I don’t have an address
“You may mail us your donation to us directly at Starr Ranch Sanctuary, 100 Bell Canyon Road, Trabuco Canyon, CA 92679″ from the home page.
Ruth, Click on “Donate” at the top (the orange bar across the page).
from early this morning ~ breakfast for one

Do we know if Mrs O brought the prey in or if the owlet brought it in?
I am not able to get the webcam to come on my computer. What am I doing wrong?
